The Giant Co. plans to open its latest Philadelphia-area store at the site of a former car dealership and adjacent parcels in Jenkintown.

The 50,000-square-foot store is proposed for the corner of Old York and Wyncote roads. Part of the site used to be occupied by a Glanzmann Subaru dealership before it relocated to a new location in Hatboro. Bryn Mawr-based Blank Aschkenasy Properties would develop the store for Giant, the grocer's first in Jenkintown.

The site is across Old York Road from an Acme.

Construction on the Giant is expected to begin once municipal entitlements and permits are available.

The new store is expected to bring 100 jobs to the Montgomery County community. Specific store amenities, as well as an opening date, will be announced at a later time.

Carlisle-based Giant operates 21 stores in Montgomery County and employs nearly 3,900. The Jenkintown location will add to Giant's expanding footprint across the region, which has included new stores in Philadelphia, Richboro and Doylestown. The locations include four Heirloom Market stores, the grocer's smaller format in Center City, University City, Graduate Hospital and Northern Liberties.

Giant is tops among all grocery stores in the region with 30% market share, according to data from Food Wold.

Giant is an Ahold Delhaize USA brand.
