The president of a Sunrise-based medical group paid $13 million for a luxury condo in Sunny Isles Beach.

David Rodriguez and his wife, Lorena, bought unit 2401 at Château Beach Residences from the developer, Château Group, according to a spokesperson for Château International Realty. The spokesperson said the sale marks a record price for the building at 17475 Collins Avenue.

Rodriguez is president of Amicus Medical Group.

The Rodriguezes have been longtime residents of Château Beach, and still own unit 1402, according to records.

In June 2020, Rodriguez also bought an oceanfront Golden Beach house at 125 Ocean Boulevard for $7.2 million.

The 8,500-square-foot condo spans the entire 24th floor and part of the 25th, with four bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and one half-bathroom. It has an oceanfront master suite and wrap-around terrace of over 2,400 square feet with its own private pool, according to a release.

The price breaks down to $1,530 per square foot.

In October 2015, a gas explosion occurred at the top floor of the condo tower while it was under construction, injuring six.

The building was not yet occupied by residents at the time. Following the explosion, unit owners sued the developer, contractor and subcontractor of Chateau Beach Residences.

The cases have either been settled or dismissed, according to court documents.

The 31-story, 81-unit tower was completed in 2016. With this sale, only the 10,000-square-foot penthouse remains among Chateau Beach’s developer units. With an asking price of $27 million, the penthouse spans two levels and has a 2,500-square-foot master suite and private swimming pool. The latest sale underscores the continued strength of South Florida’s luxury residential market. The number of sales of $10 million or more from December 2020 to November 2021 topped that of the previous two years combined, according to an analysis by The Real Deal.

In Sunny Isles Beach, professional race car driver Bret Curtis and his wife, Yecenia, sold unit 3400 at the Residences by Armani/Casa last month for $5.2 million.

Other recent Sunny Isles sales include Brazilian fertilizer mogul Maro Marchionno’s $9.2 million purchase at the Regalia. And Andres Bzurovski, one of Uruguay’s first billionaires, paid $16.6 million for a lower penthouse at Dezer Development’s Porsche Design Tower.
